Our Story
A bit about us and the leaders who bring it all together

Luma Pictures is an award-winning visual effects studio with offices in Los Angeles and Melbourne. We formed in 2002 in Santa Monica in a tumultuous visual effects industry, with the unwavering goal to create meaningful art with exceptional people.

In 2013, we expanded to Melbourne, Australia. Spanning two continents, Luma continues to grow and evolve to build more beautiful and compelling visual art for those who work for us, and those who work with us. With 250 employees (and counting), we’re proud to have worked on over 100 feature films including Marvel Studios tentpoles like Spider-Man: Far From Home, Black Panther, Guardians of the Galaxy; as well as Academy Award-winning films like Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Jojo Rabbit, No Country for Old Men, and True Grit

Over the years, we’ve kept that same hungry mindset and take pride in our creative partnerships. Our motto is simple: work with exceptional people on meaningful things. It’s what started our fire and continues to fuel our engine.

Work Hard, Play Hard

Our culture lives and dies by our people. We're designers, coders, artists, problem solvers, and pals who all come together to make life pretty damn good. If you like what you do, you excel at what you create. So that’s why we incorporate a bit of play into everything we do. Every. Single. Day. Whether that means jetting off to Maui and Fiji for some R&R, transforming our studio for Halloween parties, hosting a hot sauce eating contest (we’ll never do that again), taking Mustache March way too seriously, or simply having a chat at beer:30—we like to have fun and have it often.
